The building was severely damaged by fire
on Palm Sunday 4/18/1943. The pastor
having been reassigned, the district superintended came to lead the service and
seeing the fire moved the services to the court house. The new pastor led the congregation is a
rebuild, which was dedicated the week of November 7-14, 1943, at which time the
building was renamed Aldersgate.

congregation was established in 1856 and worshipped in a log building west of
Oriental 1856-1900. The log structure
was replaced by the present building in 1900.
