A small kitchen and several classrooms were added in 1938.  This is the home church of missionary and educator extraordinaire Dr. Frank Laubach.

Brief History:
This congregation began in July 1903 with 21 charter members as the West Berwick Mission, an outreach of the North Berwick (Bethany) appointment.  Two lots were purchased, the cornerstone was laid 9/20/1903, and the building was dedicated 4/14/1904.  This was at 1106 Orange Street.  To accommodate the growing work, a basement for Sunday School rooms was later placed under the church and a balcony was added to the sanctuary.  Sensing the need for a whole new building, the Ladies Aid Society purchased land at the corner of Orange and Orchard Streets.  Ground was finally broken for the new church building 5/27/1956, and the structure was dedicated 6/23/1957.
In 2025 Bower Mmeorial, Calvary and St. Paul’s merged to form Berwick UMC – meeting in the St. Paul’s building and on a two-point charge with Berwick First.

Leonard Zimmerman preached in the Zehner log cabin, and a great revival led to the beginning of the Summerhill Evangelical Church.
The original Evangelical church that stood in the cemetery was built about 1847 and open to all denominations.  It was also used by the Methodists until they erected their own structure in 1882.  This encouraged the Evangelicals to erect a new building themselves, diagonally across the intersection from the cemetery, in 1893.
