Brief History:
     This congregation is worshiping at its fourth location.  It was established in 1843 as one of eleven appointments on the Hershe’s circuit meeting in the Wise school house, about two miles northwest of Boiling Springs.  In 1854 a church building was erected in Springville, by the present cemetery, just west of Boiling Springs.  In 1897 a church building was erected in Boiling Springs at 2 Forge Road and used for 101 years, until the present facility was occupied in 1998.  The 1897 building was sold to the Unitarian Universalist Church.

This congregation was formed in 2012 by the union of the Allison (former Methodist), First (former Evangelical) and Grace (former United Brethren) United Methodist congregations.  The congregation met in the former Grace building until the new present site was occupied in September 2020.

Brief History:
     In 1902 the superintendent of the Carlisle District visited several Evangelical families in Mechanicsburg and was impressed with the possibilities of beginning a work in that growing town.  Rev. A.H. Irvine of Lemoyne began preaching services at the home of John B. Shover at 15 S. Arch Street, and then in the Union Church on Main Street.  In 1903 a chapel on West Coover Street was purchased from the United Brethren Old Constitution.  Later the brick church building at Arch and Locust was purchased when First United Brethren relocated to Simpson Street.  The property at Market and Simpson was purchased by faith in 1927, and ground was broken for the present facility in 1936.

27. Shippensburg Christ United Methodist Church

     King Street is US 11, the main north-south route through the borough.  The church is on the northwest corner of King Street and Apple Avenue, ˝ block north of the center of town.

Brief History:
     Methodism was introduced to Shippensburg by circuit riders in 1787, and a log building capable of seating about 200 was erected about 1790.  The congregation’s second building, a one-story brick structure still standing on Orange Street and now owned by the AMEZ denomination, was erected in 1825.  They relocated to the present site in 1872 and erected a two-story church building that was destroyed by fire in 1901.  The present sanctuary was erected in 1902, and the educational building added in 1956.

     From the center of Shippensburg (King and Earl Streets), go 2 blocks east on King Street (US 11) to Penn Street.  Go 1 block south on Penn Street.  The church is on the southwest corner of Penn Street and Neff Avenue.

     United Brethren circuit rider (and later bishop) Christian Newcomer preached occasionally in Shippensburg as early as 1798, usually in the Methodist building, but it wasn’t until 1866 that a class was organized and regular preaching established at the home of local preacher J.C. Smiley.   The first appointed pastor was Rev. John Fohl.  A lot was purchased on North Penn Street, and a brick church building was erected in 1869 and replaced by a  more modern and commodious structure that was dedicated January 21, 1894, by Bishop Ezekiel B. Kephart.  In 1922 a new site was purchased on South Penn Street, and the present sanctuary was dedicated October 26, 1924 by Bishop William M. Bell.
     A new educational building, to be known as the Evangel Center, was constructed adjacent to the church sanctuary and dedicated on September 27, 1970.
