Brief History:
This congregation began in
1922 when the Conference Missionary and Church Extension Society of the East
Pennsylvania Conference of the United Brethren Church purchases a lot at the
corner of Jonestown Road and Madison Street (41st Street
extended). A charter membership of 35 persons was established, and a brick church building was
dedicated in 1925. In 1961 when a major interchange
was planned in the area for I-83 and Jonestown Road, the congregation was given
the choice of remaining “inside” the interchange or relocating to Colonial
Road. The congregation chose the latter. The building was demolished, with the kitchen
cabinets and other materials used in the construction of the new Trinity EUB
church in New Cumberland. In 2007 the
congregation was re-named CrossPoint and became a
multi-site campus with locations in Rutherford (former Christ UMC) and South
Hanover township (in a mall). The
multi-site strategy has since been abandoned, but the congregation continues as

Brief History:
This building is
unique in our conference in that it was owned at different times by all three of
United Methodism’s predecessor denominations.
It was erected as a Methodist Episcopal church in 1859, sold to the
United Evangelicals in 1891, and sold to the United Brethren in 1903. There was a United Brethren class meeting in
Fisherville, connected with the work at Halifax before 1903. The class was attached to Halifax until 1919,
placed on the Enders circuit 1919-1934, and then on the large Enders – Powells
Vally circuit.
Grace (along with Enders Salem,
Halifax Ebenezer and St. Paul’s) was one of 4 churches on the original Enders
charge. In 1934 Enders and Powells
Valley combined to make the United Brethren’s large rural 8-point Enders
Powells Valley charge that existed until the 1968 United Methodist Union.
In 1996 Halifax Ebenezer, Enders Salem and Powells Valley Union merged into
Fisherville Grace (the lone remaining congregation from the original Enders
charge) to form Fisherville Faith, which has since been redesignated as Halifax

Brief History:
Middletown is so named because it lies midway between the two key
frontier towns of Lancaster and Carlisle, and it claims to be the oldest town
in Dauphin County. Christian Newcomer
and other United Brethren pioneers began preaching in the Middletown area as
early as 1800. A class was formed which
met at the house of John Shoop, on the southwest corner of Spruce and Water Streets,
until 1852 – when a 30x40 church building was erected on Spruce Street. The congregation worshiped there until 1867,
when they purchased a 60x60 building at their present site on the northwest
corner of Spruce and Water Streets. That
structure had been erected by a dissenting Lutheran congregation in 1838 and
was known variously as “Christ Church” and the “Old Academy Building.” They sold their Spruce Street building to a
Reformed Mennonite congregation.
In 1892, the “Christ Church” building was razed and replaced by the
present 45x75 two-story sanctuary.
Beginning in 1946, additional properties on the west were purchased, and
the present educational addition was constructed in 1952 – 100 years after the
erected of their first building.
In the 1970 conference realignments necessitated by the 1968
denominational union that formed the Unted Methodist Church, the congregation
joined the other former EUB church in Dauphin County in their transfer from the
Eastern Conference to the Central Pennsylvania Conference.

1889,10 – new house of worship being built
Brief History:
This congregation is now
worshiping at its fourth site. The class
was organized in 1866 when Joseph Mumma moved to Baldwin (the original name for
Steelton) and convinced the pastor of Highspire circuit to being visiting the
town’s United Brethren families. An old schoolhouse was purchased, and the land
on which it stood was rented for 10 years.
In 1874 a church building was dedicated on Second Street and named
Centenary in honor of Otterbein’s 1774 move to Old Otterbein Church in
Baltimore. In 1888 that building was
sold to the German Lutherans, and the congregation erected a third building
across the street. They worshiped in the first floor of the building until the second floor sanctuary was dedicated in 1890. When that building was destroyed by fire
December 6, 1969, the congregation purchased ground in Swatara township where
they erected their fourth and present building – worshiping with the former
Methodist [Steelton First] congregation in Steelton until the structure on
Orchard Drive was dedicated in 1972.

O.E. Stocking of Steelton First ME, organized a Sunday School in the home of
Samuel Seiders in the Heaggy Heights section of
Steelton. The first session was held
Sunday, December 24, in the home of Henry Golay. The school met in the Lewis and Seiders homes
until the present chapel in the Cumbler Heights
section of Steelton was completed and the students marched from the James Lewis
home to Third and S Streets on December 23, 1906. At that time an official congregation was
organized, which was served during its time in the Philadelphia Confrence by students pastors and/or the pastor from Steelton First.
Pews replaced the original chairs in
1941. In 1951, helped by $2500 from the
Board of Home Missions and $2500 from the Missionary and Church Extension
Society, the church was enlarged – doubling the capacity of the building. In 1970, as part of the reorganization necessitated
